U.S. Sen. Kirsten E. Gillibrand, D-N.Y., sent a letter on Friday to leaders of the Department of Veterans Affairs demanding more details about alleged sex crimes against a physician who was employed at the VA medical facility in Watertown.
State police charged Dr. Jerome F. Cuyler, 74, Sackets Harbor, with six counts of forcible touching, five counts of third-degree sexual abuse and one count of fourth-degree aggravated sexual abuse in multiple alleged incidents that occurred in 2016 while he was employed at the CANI Building in Watertown.
The senator’s letter was addressed to Acting Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert L. Wilkie Jr. and Syracuse VA Medical Director Dr. Judy A. Hayman.
In her letter, Sen. Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said that “We need clear details on the VA’s internal decision-making process throughout this scandal and a more complete timeline of these extremely disturbing events.”
